Firefighters battle stubborn 3-Alarm fire

Just before 5 AM Sunday, Allentown transmitted box 3135 for a house fire at 337 North 3rd Street sending Engines 6, 9, 4, 13, Truck 2, Battalion 4 (Hess).

Engine 6 arrives and has heavy smoke showing and fire out the rear of a 2-Story end-of-row (E/O/R). The fire rapidly extended vertically and then horizontally when it hit the cockloft (atttic).

The 2nd alarm was struck bringing in Engines 14, 10, Air 1, Cars 41, 46 and 48.

Eventually the 3rd alarm was sounded bringing in Engine 11. At that point, surrounding volunteer companies were brought in to man the city stations.

The fire burned for more than 4 hours and damaging 3 homes. Firefighters were tasked at chasing the fire in the walls and ceilings of 3 homes. This was a labor intensive battle. The 2nd platoon replaced the 4th platoon after shift change.
