Horrific deadly car crash on Rt. 248

Carbon County

Early Saturday morning Aquashicola Fire Station 1 of Carbon County was dispatched to Rt. 248 in area of the cantilever for a single vehicle crash.

The 9-1-1 caller reported the car was traveling 100 mph and didn’t think anyone was alive in the car.

A fire official requested the coroner to the scene for two people found dead. Members used thermal imaging cameras to search the wooded area for more victims that could’ve been ejected.

The car left the roadway and hit a tree line. The car was very heavily damaged.

**UPDATE**

The coroner said only one person died in the crash and that was the driver.  No other passengers were in the car.  Initial reports on the radio said 2 people were killed.  After further examination of the mangled wreck, it was discovered that only 1 person was in the car.

News reports that a 48 year-old woman from Catasauqua was killed when her car traveling at 120 mph left the roadway and hit a cement wall then crashed through a guide rail and hit a tree line.

Candy L. Growden was identified as the victim.  She was operating a 2005 Ford Mustang.
