Around 1:00PM Wednesday afternoon on November 6th, Lehigh County transmitted the box for 5645 East Lane in Upper Macungie Township sending Station 8, Rescue Engine 25, Quint 25, Rescue Engine 56, Engine 26, Rescue 11, Station 30 for F.A.S.T. and medic 62.
Enroute, crews could see a column of smoke rising from the area. Command struck out the 2nd alarm while enroute. Once on scene, crews found heavy fire and smoke from the rear of the 2-story colonial style home.
The fire was quickly expanding. Embers from the fire ignited a nearby cornfield on fire and that too rapidly expanded. Two more alarms were transmitted for the brush fire.
The homeowner was asleep on the sofa at the time of the fire and a neighbor alerted him to the fire. He awoke to find fire engulfing his deck that is attached to the house.
