Early Tuesday morning, Allentown, Pennsylvania Fire Radio transmitted an AFA for 161 West Gordon Street assigning Engine 6 (Reserve E8), Truck 2 and Battalion 43 (O’Neill). When Engine 6 arrived, residents told the firefighters the fire was on the second floor. Box 3137 was transmitted to fill out the assignment for the apartment building fire adding 3 more engines.
Engine 6 Lieutenant found heavy smoke in the hallway of the second floor and called for a hand line. Engine 4 brought in a water-supply and Engine 9 assisted with search and line advancement.
Chief 43 struck out the 2nd and 3rd alarms as rescues were being made by ground ladders from Truck 2. Many more people were using the fire escapes and main entrance to the building as 2nd and 3rd alarm companies assisted.
Engine 6 located the seat of the fire in the second-floor apartment and once the line was wet, the fire darkened down quickly and contained to the apartment.
A total of 7 Engines and 2 Trucks operated at the scene.
No injuries were reported. Several cats and dogs were rescued and aided by paramedics.
