Just after 12:00p.m. Friday, Whitehall Chief 35 (Bilder) with Squrt 38 just finished up lunch at the Coplay Eatery at Chestnut and Ruch Streets in Coplay when they noticed heavy black smoke billowing just south of their location.
Both the chief and the apparatus went to investigate. They came upon a working house fire on in the 1100 block of Center Street. Chief Bilder immediately transmitted the radio alarm to Lehigh County dispatch for the working fire.
Dispatch advised the chief they were receiving multiple calls for 1113 Center Street and transmitted the box for Coplay Borough. Squrt 38 went on scene with the chief and stretched a hand line to the garage and quickly darkened down the fire and immediately took the hand line in the front door to protect the attached dwelling.
Quick action of the crews already on the road prevented further extension and damage to the main dwelling.
Two cats and a dog were rescued from the fire. They survived the fire. The second alarm was transmitted but was told to hold all companies at quarters as the main body of fire was knocked.
