2nd Alarm fire in drug rehabilitation facility in center city

City of Allentown

At 23:38 Friday evening, Allentown sent Engine 4, Truck 2 and Battalion 43 for an automatic fire alarm at 18 S. 6th Street.

Engine 4 went to investigate and found a smoke condition inside on the 3rd floor.  Battalion 43 had the box filled.  Box 2114 was transmitted at 23:42 sending Engines 9, 6, and 10.

Engine 4 connected to a hydrant in front of the building and supplied the standpipe and stretched a 2-1/2 inch into the building.  Crews found a fire in an electrical room on the 3rd floor and quickly knocked down the fire.  The 2nd alarm was transmitted bringing in Engines 14, 13 and Air 2.

All the patients were evacuated safely to the parking lot on the side of the building while the firefighters went to work.

After extinguishment, they opened up walls to check for extension and found fire in the walls.  They cleared the building of smoke and had the FM’s office investigate.
