Sunday night at 23:42 hours, Allentown box 2237 (9th & Chew) was transmitted for a house fire located at 313 North Ninth Street sending Engines 4, 9, 6, 10, Truck 2 and Battalion 43.
Battalion 43 (Hess) arrived and signaled a working fire in a 3-story middle-of-row. Upon further investigation, heavy fire was venting from the rear of the dwelling. Battalion Chief Hess ordered Engine 6 to the rear. However, the streets were tight and they were unable to access the rear. Yards and fences also hampered firefighting efforts in the rear. Engine 4 stretched a hand line through the front door and commenced a fire attack.
It took firefighters approximately 30 minutes to get the fire under control. The house was vacant at the time and no injuries were reported.
