Just before noon on Saturday, Northampton County 9-1-1 transmitted the box for a working house fire at 103 East 1st Street in the Borough of Northampton.
Information transmitted to the chief from the dispatcher was for a working fire in the dwelling with a person on the second floor attempting to get out. The chief struck out the second alarm with that information before he arrived on location.
A large plume of black smoke could be seen from miles around. The occupant of the home escaped the flames before the arrival of the fire department.
Ladder 18 from North Catasauqua arrived in the front of the building and stretched a heavy hand line to the front of the building and knocked down the fire engulfing the porch. Fire was venting from numerous windows by this point. The 2 1/2 line was then advanced to the front and into the first floor.
While Ladder 18 was working the front, Engine 42 (Northampton) was laying a supply line to the rear of the house via an alley. They stretched a 1 3/4 hand line to the rear and started knocking down the exterior fire and second floor.
Tower 46 positioned in front of Ladder 18 on the ‘A’ side of the fire building. The fire eventually worked its way to the attic where it vented out the dormer. Both ladder pipes were used to hit that fire.
