At 21:59 hours Saturday evening, box 4396 was transmitted for a dwelling fire at 1317 West Rush Street (North Philly) sending Pipeline 50, 3, 45, 59, Ladders 12 and 3, Battalion’s 8 and 3, Medic 22.
The 1300 block is a half block directly south of Battalion 8, Pipeline 50 and Ladder 12’s firehouse. Battalion 8 arrived and reported heavy fire from the first floor of the 2-story middle-of-row dwelling and placed 2 engines and 2 ladders in-service. Engine 50 arrived and positioned on North Park Avenue at Rush Street and connected to the hydrant and stretched in from there. Within minutes, they had water on the fire and a good knock on it. The nozzleman immediately used the hose and hydraulically vented the smoke through the front first floor window.
Ladder 12 commenced their primary search and found a victim and removed him to the street to awaiting medic 22. The man was rushed to Temple Hospital in critical condition.
Pipeline 2 arrived and positioned on North 13th Street and Rush and connected to a hydrant. Members then stretched a leader line down Rush Street and placed a second hand line into service.
The fire was under control 15 minutes after arrival. The fire is under investigation. The 8th battalion held the fire to a 2 and 2.
A female was also injured during the fire with 3rd degree burns and transported to the hospital.
