Early Monday evening, Allentown transmitted box 2316 (8th & Tilghman) for a reported house fire at 739 Tilghman.
Engines 9, 4, 6, 10 (F.A.S.T.), Truck 2 and Battalion 43 (Held) responded on the ticket. Battalion 43 arrived and reported heavy smoke from a 3-story End-of-Row (E/O/R). Engine 9 stretched a hand line to the 3rd floor, encountering heavy fire on the stairwell to the 3rd floor. Battalion 43 special-called one additional engine to the scene using all hands on the first alarm.
Within minutes of the aggressive interior attack, the fire was darkened down and the crews started overhauling. One firefighter was injured and transported to the hospital.
During the fire, a civilian ran up to a police officer and alerted him to a overdose in the 600 block of Silk Street. Paramedics from the fire scene rushed down to the house in question. The male overdose victim was transported to the hospital. He was conscious on the stretcher when being loaded into the back of the ambulance.
No other injuries were reported at the fire scene.
