At 11:00AM Wednesday, Lehigh County 9-1-1 transmitted a rescue box to the intersection of Rt. 145 and Center Street for a crash with ejection. Rescue 5 and 8, Engines 3 and 13 were sent along with Medic 62.
Police arrived and reported one male ejected on the highway and a nurse on scene reports him to be D.O.A.
The driver was southbound in his Trans Am at a high rate of speed when he clipped the rear of a tri-axel dump truck and then rolled over into the northbound lanes ejecting the driver of the Trans Am.
The driver suffered severe blunt force trauma and was killed instantly. He was reportedly not wearing a seat belt and had the roof open.
The dump truck had rear wheel damage. The highway was littered with debris such as beer cans, football helmets, tools and household goods.
The man was identified as 57-year-old Charles Korpics Jr. of Mechanicsville Road in South Whitehall. Police said alcohol may have been a factor in the accident due to the beer cans found at the scene but will not know for sure until toxicology results come back from the coroners office.
The highway was closed for 5 hours while police investigated.
