Late Friday morning, Catasauqua Police responded to a report of a man waving around a samurai sword in the 700 block of 3rd Street. When police arrived they spotted Ruben Correa, 43 that is wanted by the Pennsylvania Parole Office for a burglary that he was sentenced to.
Correa did not surrender and ran into a house. With reports of weapons, a girlfriend and children inside, police and parole agents requested the assistance of the Lehigh County SWAT team.
Agents have been searching for Correa for at least a week. He was spotted numerous times in the Catasauqua / Whitehall area but has always slipped away. Today was his final day as a free man.
Shortly after the SWAT members advanced towards the house, he was taken into custody a short time later without incident. The parole agents had their man around 13:30. The week long manhunt came to an end.
Northampton County Emergency Management Command Post was called to the scene. Lehigh County’s command truck was busy at the Allentown Fair this week and unable to respond. Numerous agencies assisted at the scene.
