At 8:15AM Monday, Carbon County sent stations 4, 5 and 6 to 256 North 2nd Street for a building fire.
On arrival, fire crews found heavy fire venting out all the windows on the Coal Street side. Command quickly transmitted the 3rd alarm and requested a tanker task force.
Companies from 4 counties (Carbon, Lehigh, Schuylkill and Northampton) were on the scene assisting Lehighton Fire Department.
Two firefighters were treated for cold related injuries. The firefighters not only battled the flames, but had to battle the freezing temps and icy conditions around the fire building.
It took 3 hours to bring the fire under control. The building will eventually be torn down.
Red Cross is assisting nine people displace by the blaze.
