Just after midnight Saturday, Slatington Police pulled over a car that was reported stolen in the parking lot of the Sunoco on Main Street. A male bailed from the car and ran of foot without shoes. Police officers were now involved in a foot chase.
Two other occupants in the car were held at gun point by police. The suspect that fled on foot fell down a 25 foot embankment into a quarry filled with ice water.
Unable to swim, he floated on a tire until rescue companies could get to him and rescue him from the freezing cold water. The outside temperature was 20 degrees.
He was loaded into a waiting ambulance and transported to the hospital. The car was impounded.
