3-alarms struck for this rowhome fire on Liberty Street

1546 Liberty Street Allentown, PA.

Just before 09:30 Friday, Allentown Box 2555 was transmitted for 1546 Liberty Street for a house fire sending Engines 10, 9, 4, 6 (F.A.S.T.), Truck 2 & 1, Battalion 43 (Hess).

Enroute, the fire dispatcher advised 43 that police have a male on the top floor unable to get out and have smoke showing. The first company arriving reported heavy smoke showing from the rear of the house. Battalion 43 signaled a working fire. Engine 9C reported electrical lines dropping from the rear of the houses. The fire dispatcher then advised 43 that a male jumped from the building and has trouble breathing. Chief Hess told EMS to step it up.

Battalion 43 advised that the fire is extending and needs the power company notified to respond immediately.

Engine 4 took the alley in the rear of the building. Engine 10 took the front with trucks 1 and 2.

The second alarm was transmitted sending Engines 13, 14, Cars 46, 47 and Air 1. These two engines are going to the exposures.

As the fire continued to spread and running the cockloft, the 3rd alarm was transmitted bringing in the last engine in the city, Engine 11. The volunteer companies were moved up to cover the city fire stations.

Battalion 43 advised the homes involved were 1544, 1546, 1546 1/2.

The fire was under control by 10:30 and crews remained on the scene for a a few more hours.

Five lines were stretched for this fire and in operation.
