Stations 18 (North Catasauqua), 2 (Catasauqua) and 42 (Northampton Borough) responded to a house fire at 1155 Howertown Road in North Catasauqua Wednesday afternoon.
Squad 241 and Ladder 231 responded immediately. Chief 18-02 arrived and signaled a working fire and put fire communications on Fire F-1 channel. When the squad arrived the stretched a hand line to the garage for a fire in the rear recreation room of the 1-story dwelling.
The homeowner knocked the fire down prior to the arrival of the fire department. Firefighters searched the dwelling for numerous pets and rescued 3 Ferrets and two snakes. All were presumed alive when they were brought out to the owner.
Companies had the fire out within 5 minutes of arrival and used fans to vent the remaining smoke from the structure.
