At 8:30AM Tuesday morning, Allentown transmitted box 3212 for 246 East Maple Street on a house fire sending Engines 13, 6, 9, 14 (F.A.S.T.), Truck 2 and Battalion 43 (Hess).
Heavy black smoke could be seen rising above the buildings as companies were responding. Engine 13 arrived and brought a water supply in from Carlisle and Maple and reported a working fire.
Battalion 43 arrived and reported heavy fire on the 2nd and 3rd floors and reported a man down in the rear of the property after falling from a 3rd floor window. He was injured and transported to an area hospital.
Engine 9 was bringing a water supply in from Brock and East Hamilton but the hydrant failed. A total of 3 hand lines were in operation along with the Tower Ladder.
Battalion Chief Hess radioed the comm center and advised that the home was fully-involved and that this operation would be all defensive.
A space heater was tipped over and caused the fire. Seven people were left homeless.
The box was held to all hands working on the 1st alarm assignment. Engine 10 was relocated to the quarters of Engine 6 during the fire.
