At 06:30 hours Saturday, Allentown transmitted box 2322 for 4th & Washington reporting an apartment fire located at 801 North Fourth Street sending Engines 6, 9, 4, 14 (F.A.S.T.), Truck 2, Battalion 43 (Hess) and car 45 (Fire Marshal Lenig).
Engine 6 arrives to find heavy fire on the 2nd floor of the 3-story mix use building. Store front on first floor and occupied apartments on the top floors. Engine 6 strikes the 2nd alarm and the fire radio dispatches Engines 13 and 10 along with Air 1.
Crews stretch 3 hand lines. The first one goes to the second floor and they make quick work of the room and contents there but not before the fire had a chance to extend to the floor above.
Another crew advances up to the 3rd floor and holds on the stairwell while crews outside attack the third floor using a transitional attack. A quick hit from the exterior darkens down the fire and cools the environment just enough that the crew inside now can successfully hit the fire. Within 10 minutes, fire in both front rooms of the 2nd and 3rd floors are successfully knocked down. Crews overhauled for the next hour hitting hot spots.
