Lehigh County 9-1-1 transmitted a rescue box for the 300 block of 14th Street in the Borough of Catasauqua sending Rescue 2 and Engine 211.
The arriving Fire Officer reported a car wrapped around a tree and the driver heavily entrapped. Rescue 2 (241) arrived and put the Jaws of Life and other tools in-service. With the complexity of the rescue, the officer special-called an additional rescue from Whitehall.
Firefighters worked almost an hour to free the male driver. They had to remove both doors, the roof and roll the dashboard. The drivers legs were severely pinned under the dash. The intrusion on the drivers side was severe and the tree was into the car about 20 inches. Paramedics worked on the patient while the firefighters cut the car apart piece by piece.
The patient was eventually removed and transported to an area hospital by Northampton Regional EMS.
