Early Friday afternoon Whitehall Fire Department was dispatched to 317 Calvert Street for a house fire.
Assistant Chief Hanzl arrived and reported a moderate smoke condition on the 2nd floor of the 3-story middle-of-row (M/O/R) with alarms sounding. Upon further investigation, he found a small fire on the second floor and attempted to extinguish the fire.
Engine 1 (LC 3611) arrived first with 2 firefighters and a driver. The engine nosed in to the hydrant next to the house and the firefighters grabbed the irons and a water can and went into the house to investigate.
They checked for fire extension to the 3rd floor and had a hand line stretched to the front door waiting for firefighters from Engine 3. Engine 4 arrived and took the assignment of F.A.S.T.
Greenawalds Rescue 11 was recalled after being dispatched as the F.A.S.T. company.
Chief 35 (Nelson) held the box to 3 engines.
